 The Wild King

Arc 1

Part 2

A Foothill Ambush

Author; Drustan Leo Alvarez

"Grrrrrrrrrrrr!"

A large green wolf with brown streaks of fur bares its teeth. Heavy rain pours down on the top of the rolling foothills stretching out for miles in every direction, clearly visible from atop the hill where a battle is taking place.

The hill wolf leaps at Drustan, who has crouched down the sword in hand as he waits for the right time to strike.

Drustan slams the wolf down in mid air with his left hand, pins the wolf down with his knee. The short sword in his right he stabs the wolf in the side of its neck and cuts the blade out the jaw and mouth, sliding it through the wolfs flesh and bone.

With the wolf neutralized and slowly dying, Drustan turns his head towards the rest of his squad.

Drustan yells through the pouring rain his wavy hair covering his face, "Keep Pressing Forward While Staying On The Defensive, But Take Every Opening They Give You!!!"

They are fully surrounded by over fifty hill wolves on all sides.

However, his fellow knights do as he says pushing forward while keeping up their defenses, and killing each wolf that gives them an opening.

Then the wolves start to part, his knight's start to feel relieved, but Drustan suspects somethings up.

Drustan yells, "Fall Back, Everyone!!! Take Defensive Formation Shield!!!"

Immediately a Hill Wolf three times the size of the average hill wolf emerges from the parted wolves.

GRRRUUURRRRRRR.........

With the wolf baring its teeth it crouches then runs toward the seemingly weakest member Kelwyn, with a wild look in its bright vibrant green eyes.

Drustan gets anxious. "Shit."  After cussing he takes out his bow and realizes all he needs to do is it to distract it then piss it off so it stops going after Kelwyn, then he can kill it.

As The Large Alpha Hill Wolf runs towards Kelwyn, Drustan Knocks back two arrows, while breathing in.

Holds his breath.

Aims.

Exhales and Releases the arrows.

The arrows shoot straight at The Alpha Wolf, hitting right on target, and deeply embedding themselves into its rear end.

The Alpha Wolf Stops in its tracks.

Drustan has already dropped the bow to two his side.

He unsheathes his longsword his back, while taking a deep breath, then exhales.

GRRRRRRRRRR!!!

The Wolf Bares his teeth.

Drustan takes a strong stance his left foot forward his right foot back, both hands gripping his longsword tightly near his right armpit.

He Steady's his breathing.

The Wolf turns around and runs towards him.

A Ferocious Look In It's Bright Vibrant Almost Glowing Green Eyes.

Drustan Focuses Only On The Wolf Running Towards Him, As Time Starts To Slow Down If Only Slightly.

When The Wolf Is Only About 3 Feet Away and Leaping Towards His Neck, Drustan Thinks A Single Thing.

"Now."

He Crouches Then Springs Up Forward Toward The Wolf In A Single Motion and Plunges His Longsword Deep Into The Wolf's Chest Severing Several Arteries.

The momentum of the alpha hill wolf's charge and Drustan's moves drove the sword deep into the wolf but also threw him off balance as the now dead Alpha Wolf continues being propelled onto him.

The Alpha Wolf falls on top of Drustan as it falls on his knee.

As Drustan manages to shift his weight and the Alpha Wolf off of him, the rest of the wolf pack scatter and run away.

Drustan Shouts, "Kelwyn, Bella, Pick off as many of them as you can.

The Alpha Wolf slides onto the ground with a thump, as mud splatters on it, while the rain continues to pour.

After Picking off the rest of the wolves Drustan orders, his squad of knights to help him, gut butcher and salt the wolves, until they can smoke them later.

When Kelwyn asked why, Drustan responded, "It will take a long time to get through the foothills, food is scarce here, due to the severe lack of trees, and due to the rain our rations are wet and will soon spoil unless we can manage to dry them. With the rain like this and night already upon us though, most of the rations will go bad tonight."

As soon as they had finished setting up camp and started smoking the wolves, they see several fires light up within a mile of their camp.
